November 25th 2009 Meeting
Happy birthday to Lion Dave (aka: Santa). We had several guests in the den for this meeting. Lion Lynda brought Cindy Barber to the meeting, and hopefully she will join the club. We also had the top three winners of our local Peace Poster Contest in the den along with their parents. (More below).

Lion Lynda attended the Zone Eyecare Committee meeting and gave a very positive report on the number of cases that the committee had before them.

Lion Bill gave a report of the Starlight Club. Last meeting the club held "Lion's Appreciation Month", and they donated $198.78 to the Lima Host Lions Club to assist with our projects. The Starlight Club is holding their Christmas Party on December 9th at the Eagles Club on Robb Ave starting at 5:30PM.

Marge has one of the school's show choirs showing up for the entertainment. There are 66 members that will hopefully be there. By the way, did you know that the Starlight Club has been around since 1945? Quite a testament to the need of the club, and the commitment that the Lima Host Lions as provided.

Remember: NO NOON MEETING on December 9th due to the Starlight Club's meeting that night.

We will be ringing the bells for the Salvation Army on September 5th starting at 8:00AM. Lion Dean has the signup sheet, and if you can spare an hour we have some slots to fill. Some students from Lima Senior High School will be playing on the steps of the Lima Post Office from 10:45 to 11:45. Director of the LSH band is planning for two groups to take shifts.

Lion Larry reported on the Zone Meeting in Bluffton in the newly renovated Bluffton Village Hall. There were 47 Lions in attendance at the meeting. BTW, any Lion is welcomed at the meetings. Lion Dean also reminded us that the next Board of Directors meeting is December 2nd at Lock 16.

November 11th 2009 Meeting
Happy birthday to Lion Ed (19th), Lion Mary (10th). Lion Ron is in the great southwest starting a home for wayward rattlesnakes. Lion Corrine is home with the Pig Flu and decided not to come in to share.

King Lion Dean read some "thank yous" from Joan Field, and Marilyn King for the flowers given to them. Just a reminder to turn in your flower money as soon as possible. 285 dozen were sold this year, with Lion Dr. Curry taking the lead at an even 100 dozen. BTW, in its time, the club would easily sell 8,000 dozen. This is when we had more members, and when people were more willing to buy flowers.

Marge Briggs, President of the Starlight Club, is asking ALL Lions to attend the Starlight Club meeting on November 20th at noon. Marge has a special surprise for all the Lions, and it will be worth it!

Lions Dean and Paul met with the Lima Schools about the Jack Blackburn Music Event, and should have some guidance on how to form a show. They should have details real soon, in time for the December board meeting (December 2nd, at 11:45 at Lock 16 on Cable Road). They also had some time to talk to Sally Wendle about the Lions "Quest" program at Lima Senior.

The Zone meeting will be November 19th at 6:30PM in Bluffton. Contact Lion Larry for details. Lion Larry went to the Lions Fall Conference, where they talked about Public Relations/promoting your club.

The Starlight Christmas Party will be December 9th at 5PM at the Eagles Lodge on Robb Avenue. All Lions are encouraged to come for fellowship and to see Lion Santa arrive.

Jerry Happy, from the pork industry talked to us about, Pigs! Pig meat is 27% less in saturated fat, and 75% more lean than other meats. When raising pigs, 50% of your expense is in corn for feeding. Around the state there are roughly 50,000 pig farms of various size. All are comfort controlled, and have safe and healthy storage facilities. This is mandatory as it's the only way to make money with hogs. Newborns (2-3 weeks) weigh 10#. A nursing pig is typically 60#. But grown pigs can be upward of 250#. This translates to $38-billion in sales, and 48% export.
