April 22nd Meeting
(Click related below to get the PDF version)

We sung a birthday song today. Lion Ron has a birthday on the 26th. Rumor has it that he's about 12 in dog years. No comment from the other end of the table. No other birthdays to report, but we're sure there will be some this year, sometime.

Lion Dean brought us up to speed on the White Cane Day, as they need people for shifts on the 9th.

Lion Ron mentioned that road cleanup will be this weekend. We will do American Avenue from The Union Bank to Cable Road, and also Arthur Avenue.

Lion Bill says we need a new transport for one of the Starlight members. They live 2 blocks from P&G and need a ride to get to the Friday meeting.

By the way, Lion Bill told a joke at the meeting. It was up for debate if this was a finable offense.

Lion Corrine gave us the wrap-up on "Once in a Blue Moon" that was held at Marimor. They had between 60 and 65 people attend. All the kids had a great time at the event.

Queen Lion Lynda is asking for the contact sheets. Each member should turn in a few names of prospective members.

PDG Larry reminded all of us that the 15th to the 17th is State Convention.

The buck stopped at the front table, or more exactly, the $10.00 stopped in Larry's pocket as he was the lucky Lion that one this meeting's drawing.

PROGRAM

The program was Candy Newland from the Lima Public Library.

Candy is the Assistant Director of the Library, and a member of the Kiwanis Club in Lima (quick, someone sign her up to be a Lion).

She spoke about the library's funding, and services.

April 8th Meeting
No birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, runs, hits, or errors. Time to play ball Lions!

The Dick Bryan Award was given to Lion Dean for his hard work in club projects, and supporting Lionism.

Lion Dean has been a leader in many projects, and is well deserving of the honor.

Seen to the left is Lion President Lynda Wright awarding Lion Dean with the Dick Bryan Award.

Zelma Cox recently passed away. She was the wife of Don Cox, who was a long time member of the Lima Host Lions Club. A card was sent to the club by the family of Don and Zelma.

Lion President Lynda asked if anyone had their Member Lists. If you know someone who would make a good Lion, please let our membership committee know.

Lion Dean let us know White Cane Day will be May 9th. It will be at both the east and west Walmart, from 10-11AM, and 1-4PM. We need a few more people to help out. Can you spare an hour?

Dean also read a thank you from David Hartzel, who is in charge of the Diabetes Center. It should also be noted that St. Rita's Medical Center issued a press release about the club's involvement with the center.

"Once in a Blue Moon" is scheduled for April 18th, Saturday, from 10A to 2PM at Marimor at 2550 Ada Rd, in Lima. See the notes from the March 11th meeting. All Lions are invited to attend!

The 50/50 was worth $10.00 and won by the Tail Twister. Proof that the fix is in! (Jack picked the ticket. Ironic that both were seen sitting in the bar after the meeting).

PROGRAM:

No program today. Guest Ann Miller from the West Ohio Food Bank had something come up.

March 25th Meeting
PDG Larry reported on the district convention. The theme was "Down on the Farm", and was held in Archbold, Ohio, at the Sauder Village on SR-2. See www.saudervillage.org for more.

Dean kicked around the signup sheet for White Cane Day (May 9th). He is still looking for some help.

The slate of officers for the July 2009-June 2010 year was read. Lion Jack is stepping down from his board of directors position, and also as assistant song leader. He said it was due to health issues.

Our club received a Membership Award from the Lions International.

PDG Larry also reminded us about the Memorial Golf Tourney in Columbus. We can use a few more to help with this District F Lions Project. We could use a couple of Lions on June 3 and a few more on June 6. We need to be there about 10:30 each day. Larry will have parking tickets and you will get sandwich and drink vouchers when you get there, along with entry to the course and transportation to the holes you will be working on. Most all of the top golfers golf in this tournament so you get to see the big names in golf. Ends up being a pretty enjoyable day.

Lion Lynda reminded us that our next Board of Director's meeting is April 1st. No fooling, at Lock 16.

50/50: A wise man, or was it a Stooge, asked to Pick Two. We did. And Lion Julie was the first to come up with $10.00. The Lion Dr. Mary won $38.50 in the monthly draw. Remember, you can't win unless you come to club. We hope to see you in the den!

PROGRAM

Program Chairman Corrine Piper introduced Lori Board, who spoke to us about their "Boot Camp" for the Blind. This camp teaches kids how to deal with things in life.

It can be something as simple as cooking, or cleaning, but if you're blind and you have never done it, it's new to you. They get one hour of working with a cane, one hour of cooking, and many other things. Think of it, if you had to measure something, how would you use a measuring cup?

They also have to learn how to deal with a mass transit system, such as the TARTA bus service in Toledo, which is like our bus system in Lima, except on a much larger scale.

The kids also were allowed to go to a movie that had a descriptive service to tell them what was happening, they got to go bowling, and go to Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

A game that all of them liked to play was "Goal Ball"
