Lion Larry introduced Jeanne Sutton, a gracious lady who has help transport eyes to Columbus for many years. She is always ready to go when asked and has been a tremendous help in getting the donated corneas to University hospital.
A certificate of appreciation was given to Jeanne and a great round of applause befitting someone who is not a Lion, but is interested in helping us help others. She may consider joining us after she comes back from a three-month visit to San Diego.
Also Lion President Dean introduced Kathy from St. Rita's who is considering joining the club.
It was decided to hold the Lions Golf Outing in September. More on that later.
PROGRAM
The guest speaker was Kevin Haver with the Metropolitan Pask District who gave us a short history of the parks system. What started very small has become a large system of parks that has been recognized as one of the finest in Ohio.
Through donations, grants and gifts they have been able to obtain over 1500 acres to be used for the enjoyment of the citizens of Allen County and visitors. They have many plans for future development and are looking to convert the Roberts property on Roush Road to a "working" farm of the 30's, with a museum like atmosphere and vintage equipment.
They are always looking for new ways to utilize the land they have to the fullest for the benefit of the general public and are thankful for the many donations in kind and dollars also that have made the parks a gret success. Included in this is the Braille Trail that we helped fund and build and the river walk that has enabled more people to use the parks.
Through the years the efforts of what has grown to some 350 volunteers yearly have made many things possible that would otherwise have been unaffordable.
The whole park system is one we can all be proud of and we certainly are fortunate to have Kevin head it.

It was the first meeting of the new administration. King Lion Dean was addressed the pride. To start off the meeting there was a fine of $1.00 to the King for "misplacing" the gavel. How it got back to the Tailtwister's seat, nobody knows. There was also a second fine for the new King Lion because he mentioned "St Ritas". But the Tailtwister (Fred), and Lion Bob were fined some change for "Valde nocens humor".
We have a new lion mascot at the head table, presented by P.P. Lion Lynda. We agreed to name him "Jack" in honor of Lion Jack Blackburn. Lion Jack was one of those guys who would light up a room, always had a smile, and despite health issues he never complained. We're still mourning the loss of Lion Jack. A good guy, and a great Lion.
Lion Bill spoke about membership and a form was sent around asking for some names. There was also discussion on the brochure that has been a work in progress. (note: at the printing of this newsletter, Lions Julie and Mary will work this project).
Lion Ed is the Program Chair, and he is looking for good programs for the club's meetings. Please contact Ed and help out. Remember, you typically need to come up with only two programs per month. Just a heads up, the meeting of October 28th should be a doosie!
Lion Bill Stolly also gave us information on the Starlight Club, and their picnic. Fifty-four people are scheduled for the picnic. BTW, we are looking for some drivers for the Starlight Club as we lost some of the regulars. If you can help, please volunteer.
Lion Todd will again chair the Carnation Sales. If you can help, please give Lion Todd some help as he has been very busy at work. We need to get our Carnation sales up this year.
PROGRAM
Lion Dean spoke to us about his vision for this year, which included projects and getting in new members. Lion Dean asked that we all try to recruit some new members to the meeting. He also played a short song by Susan Werner that more or less says what we need to do as Lions.
